Yet more Viola things

It is the 1st of the month after all, which means it’s the time for another opinion piece on the latest Viola Music Club offering. March’s track is called “Suddenness”. It has bass. Deep, deep bass. Which, surprisingly, doesn’t control the song – it’s just one of the few key elements in the sparse track, alongside Riku’s voice, the wide open space of an atmosphere and the small, twinkling melodies scattered as the light counterpoint to the subwoofer-thumping low end of the song.

It’s a hypnotic little thingy. One of those songs that keeps you pressing the play button over and over again because it creates the sort of sonic space that’s nice to be in. In particular, I’m digging the final minute or so of the song where the song turns into almost Astromelancholia-like in its sonic vastness yet still retains the subdued, subtle feel. Very lovely.
